Neighbourhood Watch is a method of developing close liaison between households in a neighbourhood, the local police, and the local authority. The aim is to help people protect themselves and their properties, to reduce the fear of crime and improve their local environment by:
- improved home security;
- greater vigilance;
- fostering a community spirit;
- improving their environment.
Schemes are run by their members through a co-ordinator and supported by the police and in many areas by a local Neighbourhood Watch association. Please contact Trevor Jones for more information about Neighbourhood Watch in Glentham.

We always advise anyone who suspects a scam, or who has been the victim of a scam, to report it to the police on www.actionfraud.police.uk or 0300 123 2040. However, it is always better to take preventative action where possible and it is good to know what to look for to avoid being taken in, as well as to advise friends and family members when necessary.
The charity Think Jessica (www.thinkjessica.com) provides a lot of useful advice about scams. Their 12-page booklet, 'Scam mail is blackmail', is particularly useful and covers: lottery and prize draw scams, clairvoyant scams, catalogue scams, courier scams, bank/building society scams and more. What is Rural Crime? Any crime that affects those living or working, or visiting rural areas of the UK. It covers a wide range of crimes, including:
- Theft of machinery, vehicles, fuel and metal
- Theft of livestock
- Burglary on farms, homes and business premises

- Theft from churches, monuments, graveyards and other heritage buildings
- Poaching, hare coursing and cruelty to animals
- Arson or criminal damage to fences and crops
